Mould Material
The mould used for vacuum forming can be made from a variety of materials depending on the desired outcome and the characteristics of the material being formed. Some common materials used for vacuum-forming moulds include:
Aluminium
Aluminum is a more durable and long-lasting material compared to epoxy. It can withstand higher temperatures and can be used to create more complex shapes than epoxy moulds.
Aluminium with Teflon coating
When aluminium is coated with Teflon, it becomes more resistant to sticking and allows for easier release of the vacuum-formed part. This can be particularly useful for moulds with complex shapes or deep draws, where parts may be more likely to stick to the mould surface.
Epoxy
Epoxy is a less expensive option compared to aluminium, which can also be used for complex shapes.
Wood
Wood is only used for simple and low-cost moulds, but it is not suitable for high-temperature applications or mass production.
